A few years ago we moved to George to do what we believed He wanted us to do and by His grace alone, despite challenges and imperfections, within the first few years we launched a fewprojects: building homes for people where there was great need (16 families have benefited from this), hosting and facilitating short term mission teams (just over 50 teams to date), upliftment and involvement in the township of Blanco and then, 5 years ago, a Sports Academy for underprivileged children. As some of the individual projects have grown and developed, so the need has arisen for focussed and concentrated attention to the specific ministry for their effective growth and future development. We are therefore excited and thankful for Wayne and Susie as they take the Sports Academy forward as an independent ministry, with whom we are blessed to be working alongside and in association with. We will continue to focus on developing our short term mission teams with better effect and also concentrating on making a spiritual, social and practical impact in Blanco, Golden Valley, through skills training, supporting 4 existing home-based pre-schools and a feeding programme. So, all the best you guys as you pursue Him and make a difference in the young lives to whom God has entrusted in your capable care! Check their

On Friday 13th April the first annual Football Academy Cup was held at the NMMU George campus. 8 local primary schools attended the tournament which was held between 3pm and 6pm. The aim of the Cup will be to provide competitive opportunities for the primary schools and also enable the Sports Academy to select talented kids for the next years new intake of football players. The final was hard fought with Tylora Primary School from Thembalethu eventually coming out the winners. The runners up Thembalethu primary school received 4 new footballs as their prize and the winners received footballs along with a new football kit for their school. The day was very successful with the schools commenting that they would love to hold it every month!
On 26th April we will be holding the Netball Academy Cup we hope this day will be just as successful.
At the end of March the 10 week Love and Life Skills programme came to an end. During this programme we aimed to empower 20 of our Sports Academy students to make good choices about sex, relationships and everything in-between. The programme was very successful with many good conversations being had between the leaders, Hannah, Rory and Suzi and the students. To celebrate the students completing the programme a dinner was held with the young people, here are a few photos from the night, for more head over to our facebook page.
After 2 weeks of volunteering with us we were very sad to say goodbye to the Shankill Team from Belfast, Northern Ireland. The team was made up of 10 young people from a community service project called the Shankill Area Project. They worked extensively with the people in the Blanco township of George, touching the lives of so many people as well as impacting their own lives at the same time! It was really a joy to have you all with us and we hope it won’t be long before we meet again!
Watch this video highlighting just a few experiences that the team had when they were here.
We welcomed a team from the Bethel Church in Redding California, for a week in March. This team was incredible and really touched the lives of everyone they met. They held 11 church services whilst they were here, at Patria Church in the city centre of George as well as a church in the Thembalethu township. All the services were attended my people from all denominations and walks of life and the response was overwhelmingly positive. We thank them for choosing George as their destination and hope that we will see them again soon!
